One of the top intelligence directors said Donald Trump’s attack was “a line that was crossed.” According to BR outgoing CIA Director John Brennan came back hard at the president-in-waiting for attacking the intelligence community.
This last saga of Trump and his Twitter machine started with the near-president tweeting, according to POLITICO that:
‘@FoxNews “Outgoing CIA Chief, John Brennan, blasts Pres-Elect Trump on Russia threat. Does not fully understand.” Oh really, couldn’t do much worse – just look at Syria (red line), Crimea, Ukraine and the build-up of Russian nukes. Not good! Was this the leaker of Fake News?’
Monday evening the director told the Wall Street Journal:
‘I think it’s the right and indeed the responsibility of the president of the United States to challenge the conclusions of the intelligence community.
‘It’s when there are allegations made about leaking or about dishonesty or a lack of integrity, that’s where I think the line is crossed.’
In a Twitter rage, the near-president said he felt as if he was “living in Nazi Germany.” Why? It was because an unverified report surfaced.
However, the term “Nazi Germany” set off the intelligence community’s nerves. Brennan told the Wall Street Journal he takes “great umbrage with that [comparison:]
‘Tell the families of those 117 CIA officers who are forever memorialized on our wall of honor that their loved ones who gave their lives were akin to Nazis.’
‘Tell the CIA officers who are serving in harm’s way right now and their families who are worried about them that they are akin to Nazi Germany. I found that to be very repugnant, and I will forever stand up for the integrity and patriotism of my officers who have done much over the years to sacrifice for their fellow citizens.’
Then Brennan addressed Trump’s tweet, asking the CIA Director whether he was the “leaker of Fake News:”
‘Was I a leaker of this? No.’
‘First of all, this is not intelligence community information.’
Brennan said that the information published by Buzzfeed had been making the rounds for “many months:”
‘I would have no interest in trying to give that dossier any additional airtime. There was an interest on the part of the bureau to make sure that the president-elect was aware of and informed of it.’
