Trump Has Odd Thursday Morning Twitter Rant, Reveals ‘Two Simple Rules’ For His Administration

According to BR Donald Trump fired off a characteristically odd Twitter rant early Thursday morning, announcing “two simple rules” that his administration will follow.

The “rules” are included in a link to a post on Donald Trump’s official Instagram account – yes, he has one – and are as follows: “Buy American And Hire American!”

Trump’s comments are characteristically vague.

After all, how exactly will his administration “hire American”? The president-elect provides no clarification as to what this “rule” means exactly. Technically, the only hiring that Trump’s administration will be doing is to fill federal government positions – and it’s pretty much a given that only American citizens fill those positions.

Trump, however, wasn’t thinking of federal government positions in his rant about hiring American. He was obviously thinking about pressuring American companies to keep jobs in the United States instead of shipping them elsewhere in an effort to cut costs.

Of course, even any appearance of government control of the economy is exactly what Trump and his followers so vilify in every instance…except when they’re doing it. Another ironic point is that it’s not as though Trump himself or anyone close to him has a history of hiring American in their decades of business past.

Twitter users commenting on Trump’s post touched on all of these problems with Trump’s statement. As reporter Isaac Saul wrote, “Oh, ‘buy American and hire American.’ Few of your companies, or even your Cabinet members, even do that. But your admin will?”

Journalist Lauren Duca provided a link to documentation of this curious discrepancy between Trump’s words and his actions, writing simply, “You have frequently hired foreign guest workers to fill jobs that could be completed by Americans.”

In short, even though Trump campaigned on a promise of fixing things up for white working-class Americans, and even though he has nice words to offer about “hiring American,” if Trump’s past is any indication, then the white working-class Americans who voted for him are likely as screwed as the rest of us.
